Why Your Eyes Look Tired (Even When You’re Not)
You wake up.
You’ve had a decent sleep.
You go about your morning…
And then you catch your reflection and think:
Why do I look so tired?
And if you’ve noticed it showing up around your eyes first, you’re not imagining it.
The skin around our eyes is often the first place to tell a story we didn’t realise was being written.
So, what’s actually going on?
The skin around your eyes is thinner, more delicate, and more expressive than the rest of your face. It moves when you smile, when you squint, when you laugh… which, in my opinion, is a beautiful thing.
Lately, I’ve started to notice more lines around my own eyes. Especially laugh lines… which doesn’t really surprise me because I’m always laughing, always joking. I think it runs in my family.
And honestly? I don’t mind them.
Those kinds of lines feel different. They don’t feel like something to “fix”. They feel like little markers of how you’ve lived… moments of joy, humour, connection. A reminder that your face is allowed to hold your life.
But at the same time, I understand the desire to support your skin as it changes.
Because over time, a few things do start to shift:
- Your skin holds less moisture
- Collagen production slows
- The area becomes more prone to fine lines
- You might notice dullness or uneven tone
And suddenly, even when you feel fine… your eyes say otherwise.
Why most eye creams don’t quite hit the mark
If you’ve tried a few eye creams before and thought, “this isn’t really doing much”, you’re not alone!
A lot of formulas either:
- Sit too heavily on the skin (which can lead to puffiness)
- Focus on just one concern
- Or don’t actually support the skin long-term
And the reality is, the eye area doesn’t need something aggressive.
It needs something considered .
What actually helps support the eye area
Instead of trying to “fix” the eye area, I’ve always believed in supporting it.
That looks like:
- Hydration, to soften the appearance of fine lines
- Ingredients that support elasticity, so skin feels more supple
- Gentle, calming extracts, especially for sensitive skin
It’s not about doing more… it's about doing the right things consistently.
A closer look at what your skin responds to
When we were developing our eye cream, we kept coming back to this idea:
What does the skin around the eyes actually need to feel supported?
That’s what led us to a combination of ingredients that each play a role:
Peptides
Help support the appearance of smoother, more resilient skin
Sea cucumber extract
A unique marine ingredient known for its restorative properties
Licorice root extract
Helps brighten and calm the skin
Evening primrose oil
Supports the skin barrier and keeps the area nourished
Allantoin
A gentle, soothing ingredient that helps reduce irritation
Together, they don’t overwhelm the skin, instead they work with it .
The meaning behind Malu Purka
When it came time to name this product, I wanted it to carry something deeper than just what it does.
“Malu Purka” means "ocean eyes" in Meriam Mir , one of the traditional languages of the Eastern Torres Strait Islands.
Malu: ocean, sea, water
Purka: eyes
Meriam Mir is one of the main languages of the Torres Strait and is distinct from Kala Lagaw Ya, which is spoken in the western and central islands.
For me, this name felt right.
There’s something about the ocean… the way it moves, reflects, holds depth and history that reminds me of the eyes. The way they carry emotion, memory, and experience.
Your eyes aren’t just something to perfect.
They’re something that hold your story.
Where Malu Purka comes in
This is exactly why we created the Malu Purka Peptide Eye Cream .
Not to promise anything unrealistic…
But to gently support the skin around your eyes in a way that feels sustainable.
With regular use, the aim is simple:
- Skin feels more hydrated
- Fine lines caused by dryness appear softer
- The eye area looks a little more rested
Not completely different, just… supported.
How to use it (and make it a moment)
Apply 1–2 pumps to the eye area and gently tap it in using your ring finger.
And if you can… let it be a small pause in your day.
A moment where you’re not rushing, not fixing, just taking care.
A final thought
Looking tired doesn’t always mean you are.
Sometimes it’s just your skin asking for a little more support.
A little more hydration.
A little more care.
And sometimes, those lines, especially the ones from laughing, are doing exactly what they’re meant to do.
Telling the story of a life that’s been lived fully.
And that’s not something to fight.
Just something to take care of, gently.
